Our Approach

Step into The Little Yoga Den, where kids move their bodies, calm their minds, and build self-confidence.

We combine introductory yoga poses with imaginative play, storytelling, music, and breathing exercises tailored to each child’s developmental level. Rather than focusing on perfect alignment, kids’ yoga emphasizes creativity, balance, coordination, and mindfulness in a playful, non-competitive environment.

We strive to cultivate an appreciation of movement, an awareness of their breath, and gratitude for each day, empowering them to lead healthy and balanced lives for years to come.

Please note all classes are secular with no religious affiliation.

Our Team

Our team consists of dedicated and experienced yoga instructors who create a nurturing, fun environment.

We require all instructors to be at minimum RYT 200 (that's a Registered Yoga Teacher with at least 200 hours worth of training) and have a passion for working with children. Our team has various specialities within to support different development, emotional, or physical needs. This includes trauma-informed, special needs, yoga therapy, pranayama (breathwork), and many more. All teachers are background checked.

The instructor assigned to you will depend on factors such as location, availability, personality, and any speciality training. We can't wait to meet you!

Our Curriculum

In children’s yoga, our main focus is regulation and centering energy - both individually and collectively. How can we get these kiddos to channel their energy? To notice the rise and fall of their bellies? To be silent and still? To create new shapes with growing bodies? These are the things we work on, at a pace and style that works for the group.

Each day will look a little different based on moods and other factors, but some rituals will be established every session. We focus on meditation + breathwork both at the start and end of class. The time in between is spent working on yoga poses with the help of fun games, props, music and more. We’ll tie in “check in” or discussion questions to help with engagement, and we’ll always adapt to meet the group developmentally.

Please note this is just a typical class and instructors may adjust the below elements as they see fit.

Part 1

Welcome & Warm Up

Instructor helps children arrive physically and mentally into the space.

Part 2

Social & Emotional Check-In

This could include collaborative heart talk, Intention Setting, or Ice breaker questions (What color is your mood today?)

Part 3

Movement

Discover bodily awareness and find the strength we all have within us.

  • Shaking “sillies” out with upbeat music

  • Yoga Sequence: A series of poses that make sense to the group physically and developmentally

  • Sample Poses: Mountain, Cat/Cow, Down Dog, Tree , Happy Baby, Boat, Star, Child’s Pose, Stretching, and more!

Part 4

Mindfulness

Bringing further awareness to our thoughts, feelings, and present surroundings.

  • Intro to meditation

  • Feeling rise and fall of belly with hands in various resting positions

  • Breathwork: This can be playful or more reflective depending on our objective that day.

    • Examples: Alternate nostril breathing, lion’s breath, box breathing

Part 5

Cool Down & Reflection

  • Create a sense of harmony, peace and calmness throughout the room.

  • Comprehension questions: What did we like the most? What felt challenging?

  • Intentional focus on the heart rate slowing down - Which activities help make that happen that we can implement outside this space?

  • Revisit intention (if applicable): What do we want more of after we leave this space? What do we want less of? If we are feeling upset, what breath can we use to feel better?
